Surprised that you didn’t try Congee Queen. Most of their dishes are pretty good and above average.

When it comes to 乾炒牛河, I am with you – many places in Toronto can produce acceptable ones but none can deliver exceptional result. I think the key is a very hot wok that manages borderline charring the dish, very similar technique to Singapore/Malaysia char kway teow where the best are found on the street prepared by chefs with decades of experience.
