It’s better to be a leader then a boss. Leaders are out there doing the same work, bosses are telling you what to do and observe/leave.

Yes, treat people as people. Most people dont dream of being a worker forever as a boss you need to understand that. You can do your best to provide growth opportunities in the company to encourage them to stay but there can never be enough growth that everyone becomes a boss there will be workers, and as a boss you know that workers are (not in every field) but often semi replaceable. If somebody you dont have a position for vertically leaves starts a company and still refrences you on how to run it. You know damn well your running your place well, so often employees are the enemys of the employer to harbor an environment that is so obviously the opposite of that tells you that your doing your business correct. Which often it could be kind of hard as a boss to gauge the true feelings of employees, bc by the time they start to share their true feelings it should have been addressed a year ago, take all statistics into account in order to correctly judge yourself and that is an amazing statistic when even the one who got away speak to you in high regard.
